Why Are Opposition Leaders Targeting CM Yogi Over His Remarks?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) Opposition leaders launched a scathing attack on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding his recent statements on the Babri Masjid. They accused the BJP of engaging in polarisation politics in the lead-up to the upcoming Assembly elections, thereby distracting from pressing matters like law and order, women’s safety, and effective governance.
In response to the Chief Minister’s comments, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized Yogi Adityanath's choice of words. “Advise him to refrain from using Urdu. Despite speaking out against it, he ironically employs it himself. Instead of 'Qayamat', he should opt for different terminology,” he stated. He further claimed that the BJP’s grip on power weakens whenever the Chief Minister faces political pressure. “The more they feel threatened, the more unstable they become,” he added.
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav condemned the BJP government for its failures in governance. “The continuous statements from BJP leaders reveal the deteriorating state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. We witness the plight of women and rising crime rates, yet this government remains inactive,” she expressed, referencing incidents like the Unnao rape case. She also pointed to significant land encroachments in the state, arguing that rather than addressing these critical issues, efforts are underway to mislead public focus.
Congress MP Tariq Anwar remarked that reopening discussions on settled issues is futile. “The Supreme Court has already resolved the Babri Masjid matter, and a grand Ram Temple now stands in its place. Revisiting this topic is senseless and merely stirs up unnecessary controversy,” he stated, adding that such comments are intended to provoke division.
As the Uttar Pradesh elections draw near, Anwar alleged, “They seek to engage in polarisation politics.”
Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh labeled the remarks as an “election stunt” by the BJP. “Polarisation has always been their strategy. It has become their political lifeline, expertly diverting attention from genuine issues,” he remarked, urging the ruling party to concentrate on enhancing the lives of Uttar Pradesh residents and prioritizing development.
Additionally, Samajwadi Party MP Virendra Singh accused BJP leaders of pursuing a concealed agenda. “This reflects the priorities of BJP Chief Ministers and others in constitutional roles, focusing less on development and governance and more on Hindu-Muslim narratives,” he claimed.
The vehement responses from the Opposition arise amid a surge in political discourse as parties prepare for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with allegations and rebuttals escalating concerning governance, development, and social harmony.
