Dungarpur, Dec 17 (NationPress) A sit-in protest took place overnight outside the Peeth police outpost in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan after a 16-year-old girl reportedly took her own life following alleged harassment by a young man in the Dhambola police station area.
The demonstrators demanded serious action after the tragic incident, where the girl succumbed after ingesting poison. This event incited protests from her family and local residents.
The victim's mother, Geeta Devi Patidar, lodged a complaint stating that on December 14, she and her daughter visited an e-Mitra centre in Kalalwada to complete a BSTC form. During this visit, a man named Javed alias Mustaq, who resides in Peeth, allegedly followed them on a motorcycle and later appeared at the e-Mitra centre.
According to the complaint, the accused harassed them again near the Patwar building by verbally abusing and threatening them.
The complaint further details that later on the same day, Javed, along with Mustaq Titoria, Khatija, Suhana, and others, allegedly assaulted and molested the minor. The mother claimed she was also attacked when she tried to intervene.
Family members mentioned that they approached the Peeth police outpost to file a report, but no immediate action was taken. On December 16, the girl reportedly consumed poison. She was first taken to CSC Seemalwara and later referred to hospitals in Dungarpur and Udaipur, where she tragically passed away during treatment on December 17.
In the wake of her death, family members and various community members protested outside the Dhambola police station and subsequently outside the Peeth police outpost.
The protesters called for the arrest of the accused, compensation for the family, and a government job for a family member.
Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar confirmed that six individuals have been detained in connection with the case. He also noted that SI Manilal, in charge of the Peeth police outpost, has been suspended. Police presence has been increased to ensure the situation is under control.
