Mumbai, March 4 (NationPress) Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde expressed her approval of Dhananjay Munde's resignation from the cabinet led by Devendra Fadnavis, stating that it should have occurred sooner.
Pankaja Munde, who serves as the cabinet minister for Environment and Climate Change, clearly articulated her stance during a press briefing, emphasizing that morality should take precedence over all other factors in such situations.
“I welcome his resignation. He should have stepped down from his position earlier. Those who encouraged him to resign should have acted more swiftly, and he too should have been quicker in submitting his resignation,” Munde remarked to the press.
The significance of Pankaja Munde’s remarks is heightened by the fact that both are cousins who were appointed as Ministers in Devendra Fadnavis' government, one representing the BJP and the other the NCP.
Dhananjay Munde, who was the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies from the NCP, faced intense scrutiny from opposition parties due to his close associate Walmik Karad being implicated in the gruesome murder of Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village, which occurred last December.
As the Opposition ramped up its attacks, Dhananjay Munde found himself under increasing pressure as his associate Wasim Karad was identified as the prime suspect in the shocking murder case.
Initially hesitant to resign, Munde ultimately stepped down at the request of CM Fadnavis, just a day after the disturbing images and footage of Santosh Deshmukh’s murder circulated widely on social media, igniting public outrage. The graphic content depicted the brutal acts committed against Deshmukh by the extortionists.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID)’s extensive 1,200-page charge sheet provided further ammunition for the Opposition, who relentlessly pursued Munde’s resignation in light of his connections to the alleged mastermind.
Walmik Karad is among eight individuals apprehended for the sarpanch’s murder in Beed district. His name was prominently mentioned as a key suspect, alongside seven others, in the shocking daylight murder of Santosh Deshmukh.
