New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Budget Session of Parliament will reconvene on Monday, with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha scheduled to convene. The session will further delve into discussions on the Union Budget for 2025, alongside various other crucial issues.
A significant highlight of the session will be the unveiling of the new Income Tax Bill, which received green light from the Union Cabinet on Friday.
This Bill aims to make India’s direct tax laws more straightforward; it will not impose new tax obligations but will instead focus on simplifying existing regulations, eliminating lengthy clauses and intricate language to enhance the accessibility of the legislation. It is anticipated that the Income Tax Bill will be presented in the Lok Sabha today.
During the presentation of the Union Budget 2025-26 on February 1, Union Finance Minister Sitharaman expressed the government's plan to introduce a new Direct Tax Code. She initially announced a thorough review of the Income Tax Act, 1961 in the July 2024 Union Budget.
As budget discussions gain momentum, pressing issues such as the new tax regulations and international relations are in focus, making today’s session set for substantial legislative action, with lawmakers tackling vital national topics.
Earlier last week, the fifth day of the session was marked by intense discussions in the Rajya Sabha, where External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar addressed the matter of deportations of undocumented Indian migrants from the United States. EAM Jaishankar provided a comprehensive statement regarding this issue.
Jaishankar remarked, “We are actively engaging with the US government to ensure that the deported individuals are treated humanely during their transport. Simultaneously, the House should recognize that our priority must be a robust crackdown on the illegal migration industry while also facilitating visa applications for legitimate travelers.”
The minister clarified that deportation is not a novel process.
The Lok Sabha encountered numerous adjournments due to disruptions instigated by the Opposition, who concentrated on the deportation matter. Despite these interruptions, discussions persisted regarding the Union Budget, and there were dialogues on crucial legislative proposals expected to be introduced during the session.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his response to the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, where he sharply criticized the Congress party.
