New Delhi, Oct 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the violent assault on a BJP MP in West Bengal, underscoring that the incident reflects the Trinamool Congress' lack of concern and the deplorable law and order conditions in the state.
In a message shared on social media platform X, PM Modi remarked, "The way our party members, including a sitting MP and MLA, were attacked in West Bengal while trying to assist those impacted by floods and landslides is utterly shocking. It reveals the indifference of the TMC as well as the truly pathetic law and order situation in the state."
He further stated, "I wish the West Bengal government and TMC would concentrate more on aiding people instead of resorting to violence during such a tough time. I urge BJP Karyakartas to persist in their efforts to support the community and aid in the ongoing rescue operations."
BJP leader Amit Malviya, head of the party's National Information and Technology Department, directed criticism at the Trinamool Congress for the alleged chaos in Bengal.
"TMC's Jungle Raj in Bengal! BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri's Dooars region to assist in relief and rescue efforts after devastating rains, floods, and landslides," Malviya expressed in a post on X.
He added, "While Mamata Banerjee enjoys her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state authorities are absent. Those who are genuinely helping the populace, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being assaulted for their relief efforts. This is TMC's Bengal, where cruelty prevails and compassion is punished."
Earlier on Monday, BJP members and supporters staged a protest rally in Kolkata to denounce the attack on party MP Khagen Murmu.
The BJP workers marched from the West Bengal BJP headquarters towards College Square and Central Avenue.
They also burned an effigy of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and demanded strict action against the perpetrators of the attack.
The rally was led by the party's North Kolkata leader Tamoghna Ghosh.
The BJP also organized a sit-in protest and burned tires to emphasize their discontent.
They proudly carried a photograph of Khagen Murmu following the assault on him.
Ghosh declared, "The Trinamool Congress is behind this attack. Our (BJP) MP sustained significant injuries during the assault. We demand strict action against those responsible. The Chief Minister should feel ashamed that an elected MP is subjected to such violence."
After the vehicle of BJP MP Khagen Murmu and party MLA Shankar Ghosh reached Bamandanga, a group of individuals, allegedly supporters of the Trinamool Congress, initiated an attack on them.
"They assaulted our (BJP) vehicle with sticks and rods and began throwing stones at it. Murmu was struck on the head by a stone, causing severe bleeding. Our vehicle also suffered extensive damage," MLA Shankar Ghosh reported.
