Kolkata, July 23 (NationPress) Tauseef Raja alias Badshah, the main suspect in the murder case of Patna gangster Chandan Mishra, attempted to change his look by shaving off his head and beard in a bid to mislead the police and avoid capture.
A senior officer from the Kolkata Police revealed that Tauseef utilized a service application to summon a barber to the Anandapur guest house located in the southern suburbs of Kolkata, where he was ultimately apprehended.
“The barber shaved his head, beard, and moustache. The intention was to trick the authorities. His cousin, Nishu, who was also arrested at the same guest house, underwent a similar transformation, trimming his hair and shaving his beard to evade recognition,” said the police official.
Despite their efforts to disguise themselves, the officer noted that their transformations failed, leading to the arrest of both men along with two other accomplices.
The police reported that Tauseef and Nishu employed another strategy to mislead law enforcement. Instead of parking their vehicle on the guest house property, they left it near a high-rise building approximately 100 meters away.
“This was a deliberate attempt to confuse the police and redirect their focus away from the guest house,” the officer explained. He acknowledged that there was initial confusion after their arrests due to their altered appearances. “However, after thorough questioning, we were convinced we had apprehended the correct individuals,” stated the city police official.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Tauseef and Nishu had visited Kolkata multiple times in the past. “They had spent several days here and made various acquaintances. The police are currently investigating these contacts in areas like Tiljala,” added the police source.
On July 17, Patna gangster Chandan Mishra was shot by five armed assailants within the ICU of a private hospital in Patna. Following a collaborative operation between the Bihar Police and the Special Task Force of the West Bengal Police, four suspects were arrested from a guest house in the Anandapur locality of Kolkata on July 19.
The suspects included the primary accused Tauseef, his cousin Nishu, caretaker Bhim Kumar, and male nurse Harsh Kumar. They were presented in an Alipore court on July 20, where the Bihar Police were granted a 48-hour transit remand.
