Patna Metro extended to Malahi Pakri: 2 new Blue Line stations open
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday, 2 July 2025, inaugurated the extended section of the Patna Metro Rail Project up to Malahi Pakri, adding two new stations to the city's growing urban rail network. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Sanjay Saraogi hailed the occasion as a landmark moment for the state.
New Stations Now Operational
The expansion brings two additional stations online on the Blue Line of the Patna Metro: Khemnichak Metro Station and Malahipakri Metro Station. These new stops extend the existing operational corridor, improving last-mile connectivity for residents in these localities.
Prior to this inauguration, metro services were running only on a 4.3 km stretch covering three stations — New ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhootnath.
What the BJP State Chief Said
Addressing the inauguration, BJP State President Sanjay Saraogi said, 'The Chief Minister has inaugurated the stations today. We are extending the Patna Metro network over time, and it will benefit the people of the state. This is a big day for Bihar.'
Saraogi added that the extension would significantly improve urban connectivity and benefit residents across the state.
CM Choudhary's Directives on Project Progress
Ahead of the inauguration, Chief Minister Choudhary had convened a detailed review meeting at Lok Sewak Awas in Patna on 29 June, where he assessed the overall progress of the metro project and issued a series of directions to implementing officials.
The Chief Minister stressed that a definite timeline must be fixed for every phase of the project and that construction quality must not be compromised under any circumstances. He also directed authorities to accelerate work across multiple project sites and to put in place a comprehensive traffic management plan to minimise disruption to commuters and local residents during construction.
Project Scale and Timeline
The Patna Metro Rail Project received government approval in 2019 and comprises two corridors. Line 1 (Red Line) spans approximately 16.86 km, connecting Danapur Cantonment with Khemnichak. Line 2 (Blue Line) covers around 14.56 km, linking Patna Junction with the New ISBT.
Once fully complete, the Patna Metro network will stretch to nearly 32.5 km with a total of 24 stations, substantially strengthening the city's public transport backbone. With the latest extension now operational, Patna moves a step closer to that target — though the bulk of the network remains under construction.
