Bhubaneswar, March 2: Amid the escalating tensions from the US-Israel-Iran war, Naveen Patnaik, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has urgently called on the Union government to facilitate the swift evacuation of Odias—including migrant workers, professionals, students, and tourists—who are currently stranded in Gulf countries.

Patnaik expressed deep concern for the safety of these individuals, emphasizing that their well-being is jeopardized by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a post on his X account, he stated, "The escalating crisis in the Middle East has left numerous individuals from #Odisha, such as migrant workers, professionals, students, and tourists, trapped. With significant disruptions to air travel, many face severe uncertainty. Their safety is in jeopardy, and they are looking to our nation for prompt assistance.”

He also appealed directly to India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, to make immediate arrangements for the safe rescue of Odias from the war zone.

“I urge the Government of India (@DrSJaishankar) to act swiftly to guarantee the safe return of all Odias caught in this turmoil. Quick action will not only safeguard lives but also provide reassurance to countless families at home who are anxiously waiting for news about their loved ones,” he added.

It is important to note that Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had previously engaged with the Central Government regarding the safe return of Odias from Dubai and other countries affected by the conflict. Odisha's Law Minister, Prithiviraj Harichandan, noted in a media briefing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is prioritizing efforts to facilitate the safe return of Odias and other Indian citizens.

Fear and uncertainty have overtaken students, migrant workers, tourists, and professionals stuck in Iran as tensions in the Middle East rise, leading many to appeal to the Indian government for evacuation or relocation to safer locations.

Point of View
