Pune, Sep 25 (NationPress) NCP(SP) president and former Union Minister Sharad Pawar stated that the Constitution, a remarkable legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, has played a crucial role in ensuring India's unity amidst the changes faced by neighboring countries.
While addressing the political turmoil in Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh, Pawar emphasized how Ambedkar's vision has provided a foundation of stability that has kept India from experiencing similar challenges. His remarks came during the inauguration of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Social Research Centre on Wednesday.
The seasoned politician asserted that the Indian Constitution, formulated under Dr. Ambedkar's leadership, has been pivotal in maintaining India's integrity despite historical and ongoing adversities.
“When we observe the map of our nation, we can see the instability around us. On one side, Pakistan is facing turmoil. Meanwhile, Nepal, which is traditionally seen as a peaceful ally of India, is undergoing significant changes. Additionally, Bangladesh is also witnessing instability. Political shifts are happening in Sri Lanka. While unrest surrounds India, our nation is charting a different course, and the credit for this goes entirely to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar for providing us with a Constitution that binds us together. India's situation remains comparatively stable, and we must acknowledge Dr. BR Ambedkar's invaluable contribution,” he articulated.
During this event, Pawar highlighted Dr. Ambedkar's role in drafting the Constitution and his efforts toward national development, including initiatives like the Bhakra Nangal Dam and various hydroelectric projects. Dr. Ambedkar made several key decisions aimed at addressing fundamental challenges to build and fortify our nation.
However, Pawar expressed concerns regarding the current administration's approach to dialogue, implying that neglecting consultative decision-making processes undermines the democratic values enshrined by Dr. BR Ambedkar in the Constitution.
“Having spent many years in Parliament, I have seen the importance of debate and discussion on various issues before any governmental decision. Yet, given the current rulers' stance, one must question whether they value dialogue. There appears to be a significant lack of discussion today. Notably, there was no consultation regarding the decision to construct a new Parliament building,” he remarked.
