Phone Theft of Rajasthan HC Judge in Jharkhand Exposes Inter-State Crime Syndicate

Dumka, Jan 12 (NationPress) The mobile phone of a Rajasthan High Court judge was taken from the celebrated Basukinath temple in Jharkhand’s Dumka on January 1, despite stringent security measures in place, leading to rapid police intervention.
In just a few days, authorities managed to solve the case, uncovering an inter-state gang involved in mobile thefts and recovering eight stolen devices, including the judge's phone.
As reported by Shyamanand Mandal, the officer-in-charge at the Jarmundi police station, the theft occurred on New Year’s Day at the Basukinath Dham temple, a well-known pilgrimage site that draws thousands of visitors, making it a prime target for organized crime.
Alongside the judge, numerous other worshippers also reported missing mobile phones. An FIR was quickly lodged at the Jarmundi police station, and a dedicated investigation team was established under senior law enforcement officials.
Utilizing technical evidence and intelligence, the team executed a series of raids across various locations. The first significant breakthrough involved the apprehension of two suspects from Babupur village in the Tinpahar police station territory of Sahibganj district. Their questioning led to the capture of two additional gang members from regions close to the Bihar-West Bengal-Bangladesh border. Along with the judge's mobile, several other stolen devices were retrieved.
The inquiry unveiled that the detained individuals were connected to a broader inter-state mobile theft syndicate operating out of the Tinpahar area in Sahibganj district. This region has become infamous for mobile theft activities, with various gangs running 'Pathshalas' (training centers) to teach young children the art of pickpocketing and theft.
After their training, these children are dispatched to crowded areas like temples, markets, and train stations, both locally and in major cities nationwide. These operations are well-organized, with gang leaders assigning specific responsibilities and closely supervising the juvenile recruits.
The Tinpahar gangs have been linked to similar incidents previously, with police records indicating that the Ranchi police recently captured members of another gang from the same vicinity.
The arrested suspects were brought before the court and subsequently incarcerated. Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to investigate in order to identify other gang members and recover more stolen items.
This theft, occurring in spite of enhanced security measures due to the judge's visit, raises significant concerns regarding the safety of worshippers at major religious sites. The police have reassured the public that steps are being taken to bolster security and prevent such incidents in the future.
