Sachin Pilot congratulates UDF on Kerala win, credits grassroots campaign
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Veteran Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Monday congratulated United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates on their electoral performance in Kerala, crediting the victory to a grassroots-focused campaign and the leadership of senior party figures. Pilot, speaking from Jaipur, said the UDF's message of a progressive Kerala resonated with voters across the state.
What Pilot Said
In a formal statement, Pilot praised the efforts of party workers and state leadership, attributing the outcome to a campaign anchored in real issues on the ground. He specifically credited Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for steering the campaign's direction.
"I extend my heartfelt wishes to the UDF candidates who worked tirelessly to earn the trust of the people. Under the leadership of Congress President @Kharge ji, CPP Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi ji, and LoP @RahulGandhi ji, our campaign connected with real issues on the ground and our vision for a progressive Keralam was embraced by the people of the state," Pilot said.
He added that as the UDF moves into a new phase of government formation, his best wishes are with the state leadership and the dedicated party workers whose hard work contributed to the result.
LDF Accepts Defeat, Promises Review
On the other side of the result, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary M.V. Govindan acknowledged the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF)'s defeat and said the party would undertake a thorough review. "The LDF will evaluate and study the defeat, after which required corrections will be made. We expect the support of the people for it," Govindan said.
The concession marks a significant shift in Kerala's political landscape, with the LDF — which had been in power — now heading into opposition after failing to retain voter confidence.
Background: Kerala Assembly Election 2025
Kerala went to Assembly polls on April 9, with voting conducted at 140 centres spread across 43 locations in the southern state. The election was a high-stakes three-way contest among the ruling LDF, the opposition UDF, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The UDF's win ends the LDF's tenure in government and sets the stage for a Congress-led administration to take charge in the state. With government formation now underway, attention will turn to the UDF's cabinet composition and its first policy moves.
