In his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi, PM Modi stated, "We have maintained ongoing communication since the onset of the Ukraine crisis. The welfare of the world is achievable solely through a commitment to peace. Together, we must explore avenues to foster peace. PM Modi expressed optimism that the world will overcome the current tensions, allowing the global community to progress in a positive direction.
"The world has confronted numerous challenges, from the Covid-19 pandemic to ongoing conflicts. We trust that soon, the world will be liberated from these tensions, and the global community will advance on a constructive path. I am confident that today, we will be addressing various issues. The economic relationship between India and Russia should be enhanced, and together, we can reach new milestones. With this highly positive outlook, we will propel our discussions forward. This is my firm belief," he stated.
PM Modi described President Putin's visit to India as historic. He added, "It has been 25 years since you assumed office in 2001 and first came to India. During that initial visit, we established a robust foundation for our strategic partnership. Personally, I am also delighted that my personal relationship with you has reached 25 years as well."
Earlier, PM Modi welcomed President Putin at the Hyderabad House in the national capital on Friday, where both leaders are focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including economy, defense, and trade.
Prior to his arrival at Hyderabad House, President Putin paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat by laying a wreath. He was accompanied by Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.
The Russian President received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, complete with a guard of honor.
President Putin's itinerary in India is fully scheduled for the day. He is set to attend a business event later and will be hosted by President Droupadi Murmu for a banquet in the evening before returning home later tonight.
