Born on February 1, 1969, in Jorhat, Assam, CM Sarma first entered the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2001, representing Jalukbari on a Congress ticket, where he triumphed over Asom Gana Parishad leader Bhrigu Kumar Phukan.
