New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Union Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, for showcasing the extraordinary development of India’s handloom industry. The Prime Minister’s Office shared Margherita’s insights on social media, illustrating how India is intertwining heritage, innovation, and collaborative efforts to motivate the world.
“Union Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, discusses the growth of the textile sector in Bharat. He elaborates on how, by combining heritage, innovation, and collective efforts, India’s handloom sector is ready to inspire the globe,” stated PMO India.
With just a day remaining before National Handloom Day, Margherita elaborated on the transformation within the textile sector, attributing it to a series of targeted initiatives by the Union government.
He emphasized that this vision, inspired by Prime Minister Modi, aims to integrate handlooms into daily life.
"With one day left for National Handloom Day, I share insights on the textile sector's growth in Bharat, thanks to the Union government's dedicated initiatives and the vision of our Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi to make handlooms a vital aspect of our everyday existence,” Margherita posted on X.
In his message, Margherita expressed pride in the rich heritage and promising future of Indian weavers, recognizing the contributions of Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh.
He noted that the journey from the looms of North East India to advanced AI-driven designs illustrates resilience, empowerment, and unlimited creativity in India’s handloom narrative.

The Swadeshi Movement, initiated on August 7, 1905, was pivotal in promoting local industries, especially handloom weaving.
In 2015, the Union Government proclaimed August 7 as National Handloom Day to honor this heritage.
The inaugural National Handloom Day was celebrated on August 7, 2015, with Prime Minister Modi inaugurating the festivities in Chennai.
