The incident has reverberated throughout the nation, eliciting condolences and support from prominent leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

In a post shared on X, PM Modi stated, “I am deeply saddened by the incident in Doda, where we have lost our valiant army personnel. Their dedication to the nation will be eternally cherished. I wish for the swift recovery of the injured. Comprehensive support is being extended to those impacted.”

The tragic event transpired at Khanni Top on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road when a bulletproof army vehicle, carrying 17 personnel, skidded off the road and fell approximately 200 feet into a gorge.

The soldiers were traveling to a high-altitude post when the vehicle lost control. A collaborative rescue operation was promptly initiated by the Army and police.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow, stating, “I am profoundly saddened by the tragic road accident in Doda that resulted in the loss of 10 brave soldiers of the Indian Army. My deepest condolences to the grieving families. The injured soldiers are receiving medical attention, and all necessary directives have been issued to ensure optimal treatment. The nation stands with our Armed Forces and their families during this challenging time.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended condolences through a message from J&K Lok Bhawan, saying, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of 10 brave Indian Army soldiers in this unfortunate accident in Doda. We will forever honor the exceptional service and ultimate sacrifice of our soldiers. My heartfelt condolences to the mourning families. In this time of immense sorrow, the entire nation stands united with the bereaved families in support.”

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his condolences, stating, “The Chief Minister has conveyed deep remorse regarding the tragic accident involving an Army vehicle at Khannitop on the Bhaderwah–Chamba road. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and wished for a speedy recovery for the injured, commending the rapid rescue and evacuation efforts.”

The Indian Army operates under extreme conditions in the region, including deployments at the world’s highest battlefield in the Siachen Glacier and along the 740-km Line of Control (LoC) across Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district.

Army personnel are tasked with preventing infiltration, cross-border smuggling, and drone-based deliveries of arms, ammunition, cash, and narcotics from across the LoC.

These drone deliveries are often retrieved by overground workers (OGWs) associated with terror organizations to maintain militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Point of View

Reflecting on the sacrifice made by these soldiers for our safety. As we navigate this painful moment, it is essential to remember the resilience and commitment of our military personnel.
