New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday sent birthday wishes to Union Minister of Jal Shakti Chandrakant Raghunath Patil, appreciating his dedication to providing safe and adequate drinking water to households.
In a message on X, PM Modi wished for Minister Patil's longevity.
"Birthday greetings to Union Minister Shri CR Patil Ji. He is undertaking commendable initiatives to ensure our water resources are utilized effectively to enhance ‘Ease of Living’ and achieve our vision of Har Ghar Jal. May he enjoy a long and healthy life," the PM posted on X.
Minister Patil represents the Navsari Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat. He is recognized as an experienced politician with strong organizational abilities within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Born in 1955 in Pimpri Akaraut village in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon, Patil joined the Gujarat Police as a constable in 1975, leaving the force in 1984. After his police career, he entered the media sector, launching a Gujarati daily newspaper in 1991. His political career commenced in 1989 when he joined the BJP, starting as the city treasurer of Surat and later becoming the vice president of the city unit.
Commonly known as CR Patil, his organizational talents led to his appointment as the chairman of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in 1998 by then-Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel.
Patil was appointed to lead the Ministry of Jal Shakti when the new NDA government was established last year. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he secured a significant victory with 10,31,065 votes, outpacing his nearest competitor by 7,73,551 votes.
Highlighting water security as a vital component in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, Minister Patil previously mentioned that the Modi government aims to secure water availability by 2047.
During an event on March 12, the Minister of Jal Shakti stated, "Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, transformative projects like the Jal Jeevan Mission and Jal Shakti Abhiyan are transforming water governance and ensuring sustainable conservation of our water resources."
He also stressed that these initiatives include improving industrial water efficiency by promoting innovative technologies that maximize recycling and minimize waste in the industrial sector. C. R. Patil asserted that industries should spearhead water conservation by embracing the 4R approach -- a principle proposed by the Prime Minister -- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recharge. He also emphasized Respect as the fifth principle.
