Patna, June 21 (NationPress) Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Siwan, Bihar, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Tejashwi Yadav, claimed that the Prime Minister has conducted 200 rallies in Bihar during the last five elections, each costing Rs 100 crore from taxpayers' funds.
“The expenditure for each rally organized by the Prime Minister utilizing government resources, which comes from the public’s contributions, stands at Rs 100 crore. Over the last five elections, he has held more than 200 rallies and public gatherings in Bihar. Therefore, the total cost incurred from public funds amounts to: Rallies/Public Meetings: 200; Cost per rally: Rs 100 crore; Total Cost: 200 × 100 = Rs 20,000 crore! YES! ₹20,000 CRORE!!!!!!!,” the LoP expressed on his X handle.
Tejashwi Yadav further alleged that while these events may be categorized as government functions, their true intention is election campaigning.
“At these supposed government initiatives, the Prime Minister visits Bihar not to discuss the successes or failures of the 11-year NDA government at the Centre or the 20-year NDA rule in Bihar, but solely to criticize the opposition, spending Rs 100 crore from public funds on each event,” he claimed.
He questioned, “What do you call those who cleverly utilize thousands of crores from the public's funds merely to self-promote and enhance their public image? If you cannot provide any assistance to a struggling state like Bihar, then why are you extracting from it?”
He further accused those who siphon off Rs 20,000 crore from the people of Bihar through rallies, pretending to be honest saviors and 'messiahs.'
“Indeed! Those who rob the public are termed as pickpockets, not helpers, right?” the LoP asserted.
Simultaneously, Tejashwi criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar after his government declared a significant increase in social security pensions, raising them from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 monthly for widows, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
Describing the move as a “copycat” decision, Tejashwi insisted that it was a commitment made by the RJD.
“We advocated for this increase two months ago, and now the NDA is merely mimicking it. I compelled the government to raise the pensions; this showcases the Mahagathbandhan effect,” he stated.
Tejashwi substantiated his assertion by sharing video clips from 2014, 2024, and March 2025, where he advocated for pension enhancements and social support.
He also criticized the state government's approach to urban flooding, alleging negligence despite numerous proclamations.
He further took a jab at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating: “Now even JD-U tickets are being distributed by Amit Shah. What remains of Nitish Kumar’s leadership?”
