New Delhi, April 11 (NationPress) On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi published a detailed blog in honor of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule's birth anniversary, praising the social reformer as a perpetual beacon for India's social evolution.

The blog, titled 'Mahatma Jyotirao Phule: A Beacon that Continues to Illuminate India's Path', was shared on X as the nation embarks on the celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of this 19th-century visionary.

In the introductory remarks, PM Modi stated, “Today, 11th April, is a profoundly significant day for all of us. It is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, one of India's most notable social reformers and a guiding light for generations. This year, the occasion is even more meaningful as it heralds the commencement of his 200th birth anniversary celebrations.”

Reflecting on Phule's character and philosophy, the Prime Minister remarked, “Mahatma Phule was a remarkable reformer. Moreover, his life exemplified moral courage, unyielding inquiry, and unwavering dedication to social welfare.” He emphasized that Phule's legacy is found not only in the institutions and movements he inspired but also in the hope and strength derived from his enduring ideas.

Discussing Phule's early life, PM Modi noted, “Born in Maharashtra in 1827, Mahatma Phule rose from humble beginnings.” He pointed out how Phule's challenges did not deter his thirst for learning, adding, “This attribute remained with him throughout his life: No matter the obstacles, one must strive, seek knowledge, and overcome those challenges rather than resigning to them.”

Highlighting Phule's curiosity and intellect, the blog notes, “From his school days, young Jyotirao exhibited a profound curiosity and became an avid reader, often delving into texts well beyond his peers' comprehension.” PM Modi further quoted him: “The more questions we ask, the more knowledge is uncovered.”

On the topics of education and empowerment, the Prime Minister stated, “He recognized with extraordinary clarity that knowledge should not be a guarded privilege but a force to be disseminated.” He also underscored Phule's groundbreaking efforts in girls' education, quoting him: “Any advancement that comes to children through mothers is immensely valuable. Therefore, if schools are to be established, they should first cater to girls.”

PM Modi further stressed Phule's vision of equality, referencing his impactful Marathi quote: “जोपर्यंत समाजातील सर्वांना समान अधिकार मिळत नाहीत, तोपर्यंत खरे स्वातंत्र्य मिळत नाही (True freedom cannot be achieved until everyone in society is granted equal rights).”

He commended the Satyashodhak Samaj, calling it a significant movement for justice and dignity. The blog mentions that it became a voice for women, rural communities, and the marginalized, reflecting Phule's principles of equality, respect, and collective progress.

In remembrance of Savitribai Phule, PM Modi recognized her as one of India's pioneering women reformers who continued Phule's mission long after his passing.
