Ahmedabad, Oct 29 (NationPress) To significantly enhance the visitor experience at Ekta Nagar, which is home to the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch 25 new electric buses (E-buses) on October 31. This event coincides with the celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
With these new additions, the fleet of E-buses in Ekta Nagar will expand to 55, all offering complimentary travel services for tourists. This initiative aims to enhance the tourism experience in Ekta Nagar, making it more comfortable, accessible, and eco-friendly.
The newly introduced 9-meter long mini air-conditioned E-buses can cover up to 180 kilometers on a single charge. Each bus features two emergency exits, specialized amenities for differently-abled passengers, and four reserved pink seats for women, ensuring a safe and inclusive travel environment.
These enhancements are expected to greatly improve last-mile connectivity in Ekta Nagar and further promote sustainable tourism. Officials indicated that this expansion aligns with PM Modi’s vision of transforming Ekta Nagar into a model for green mobility and smart tourism.
On World Environment Day, June 5, 2021, PM Modi had announced plans to develop Ekta Nagar into India’s first E-City. Since then, the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA) has progressively rolled out E-cars, E-rickshaws, and E-buses in multiple phases.
During this event, Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects valued at Rs 1,219 crore, including the Rs 367 crore Museum of Royal Kingdoms of India and the Rs 303 crore Birsa Munda Bhavan, dedicated to the esteemed tribal leader.
Out of the total, projects costing over Rs 700 crore will be initiated, while projects worth Rs 519 crore will be inaugurated. Additionally, the Prime Minister will unveil a commemorative coin and postal stamp honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, flag off the electric buses in Ekta Nagar, and engage in various public activities.
