New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Sunday that the real strength of India is embedded in its rich traditions of community living, family values, and collective responsibility, which often go unnoticed amidst the mainstream spotlight.

During the 130th episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi remarked, “Wherever we travel in India, we are bound to experience something extraordinary and unique. Frequently, these events are overshadowed by media coverage. However, they unveil the genuine strength of our society and offer a glimpse into our value systems where the spirit of solidarity is vital.”

He shared a remarkable social custom from Gujarat, highlighting Chandanki village in Beharaji, which practices an unusual tradition of communal dining.

“You might be astonished to learn that the residents, especially the elderly, do not prepare meals at home. This is due to the village's exceptional community kitchen where meals for the entire village are prepared, and everyone gathers to eat together. This tradition has flourished for the past 15 years. Moreover, if someone falls ill, a tiffin service is available, ensuring home delivery is well-organized. These community meals bring immense joy to people,” he explained.

PM Modi asserted that such initiatives not only unite individuals but also “cultivate a sense of family,” describing it as a system that is an “integral part of our tradition.”

“This practice is met with great curiosity in numerous nations. In many places, such family systems are held in high regard. Recently, my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, visited India. He informed me that the UAE is designating 2026 as the Year of the Family, aimed at enhancing harmony and community spirit among its citizens — indeed, a truly admirable initiative,” the Prime Minister mentioned.

Drawing from an example in Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi noted that when the “strength of family and society come together,” even the most formidable challenges can be overcome.

“I’ve come across Sheikhgund village in Anantnag, where issues related to drugs, tobacco, cigarettes, and alcohol had escalated significantly. Witnessing this, Mir Jafar Ji, a local resident, was so troubled that he decided to tackle the problem. He rallied everyone in the village, from the youth to the elders. His initiative resulted in shops ceasing the sale of tobacco products, while also raising public awareness about the dangers of drugs,” he said.

The Prime Minister also praised organizations dedicated to long-term social service throughout the nation.

“Countless organizations in our country have devoted themselves to social service for many years. For example, there is one in Faridpur, East Medinipur, West Bengal, called Vivekananda Lok Shiksha Niketan. This organization has cared for children and the elderly for the past four decades,” he remarked.

“In addition to providing education through the Gurukul system and training teachers, this organization is involved in many noble endeavors for social welfare. I hope that this spirit of selfless service continues to grow among our citizens,” PM Modi added.
