Guwahati, Nov 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed on Thursday that the highly awaited Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge is set to be inaugurated for public use in January 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi planned to officially dedicate this important infrastructure project to the nation.
While speaking at an event held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, CM Sarma provided insights into several impending visits by prominent Union Ministers to Assam.
According to him, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to visit the state twice in the upcoming months.
“The Prime Minister will first arrive in December this year to inaugurate the new terminal at Guwahati’s LGBI Airport and lay the groundwork for the Namrup fertiliser plant. He will then return in January to formally inaugurate the Guwahati–North Guwahati bridge and participate in a special event at IIM Guwahati, ” Sarma mentioned.
However, the Chief Minister noted that the exact dates for the Prime Minister’s visits are still pending confirmation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also scheduled to visit Assam either at the end of December or the beginning of January.
During his visit, he is expected to inaugurate the Jyoti–Bishnu Auditorium, the Batadrava project, and participate in a Booth Sammelan. Before this, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive in Assam on November 8.
“She will first tour the semiconductor unit at Jagiroad and engage with about 300 young entrepreneurs. Following that, she will inaugurate the Gateway of Guwahati’s river terminal and the Brahmaputra Riverfront at Uzan Bazar,” the Chief Minister reported.
Additionally, he stated that Sitharaman will lay the foundation stone and conduct the 'bhoomi pujan' for the forthcoming Swaheed Konkolata University in Gohpur on the same day.
The state government has allocated Rs 500 crore for the university, which will be constructed on 771 bighas of land.
“The tender process is complete, and construction will commence shortly,” Sarma added.
On November 9, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Guwahati to attend an air show at Lachit Ghat.
This event will showcase advanced aircraft, including Rafale and Sukhoi fighter jets, marking the first such exhibition in Assam.
Detailing his own engagements, Sarma shared that he recently attended 9 of his 12 scheduled meetings in Bihar and will return to the state to complete the remaining programs.
