Patna, Sep 25 (NationPress) In anticipation of the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on September 26 at 11 a.m. through video conferencing, as reported by government officials.
During this event, the Prime Minister will directly credit Rs 10,000 into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women throughout Bihar, totaling an initial disbursal of Rs 7,500 crore.
This initiative, originally unveiled by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aims to foster Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) women by encouraging self-employment and enhancing livelihood opportunities.
The scheme is designed to be inclusive, providing financial support to one woman per family in Bihar to initiate income-generating ventures of their choice.
Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs 10,000, with a follow-up assessment after six months that may allow for additional financial aid of up to Rs 2 lakh based on progress.
Community resource persons from self-help groups will equip women with the necessary skills to run their businesses effectively.
To further support beneficiaries, Gramin haat-bazaars will be improved to facilitate the marketing and sale of their products.
This program is perceived as a significant strategy to empower women voters and bolster rural livelihoods ahead of the critical state elections, where the NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, faces stiff competition from the Grand Alliance (INDIA bloc).
On August 29, 2025, the Bihar government approved the launch of this initiative aimed at uplifting women through financial support and self-employment opportunities.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, where the proposal received unanimous support.
Under this scheme, one woman from each family in Bihar will be eligible for the initial financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to commence employment of her choice.
