Guwahati, Jan 17 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Assam this Saturday and Sunday (January 17 and 18), where he will engage in significant cultural and developmental events in the region.
On Saturday evening, around 6 p.m., the Prime Minister will grace a vibrant traditional Bodo cultural programme at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.
The evening's highlight will be 'Bagurumba Dohou 2026', a momentous cultural celebration that honors the deep-rooted heritage of the Bodo community.
More than 10,000 performers from the Bodo community are anticipated to showcase the Bagurumba dance in a unified, mesmerizing display.
Artistes from 81 Assembly constituencies across 23 districts of Assam will participate, marking it as one of the largest cultural exhibitions in the state.
Bagurumba, an iconic folk dance of the Bodo community, draws inspiration from nature.
Traditionally performed by young women, with male musicians accompanying, the dance symbolizes the beauty of blooming flowers and the harmony between human existence and the natural world.
Its graceful and fluid movements mimic butterflies, birds, leaves, and flowers, and it holds profound cultural significance, representing peace, fertility, joy, and collective harmony.
This dance is closely linked to festivals such as Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year, and Domasi.
On Sunday, at approximately 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will head to Kaliabor to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a major infrastructure initiative valued at over ₹6,950 crore.
This 86-km-long project, officially known as the four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715, is designed to be an environmentally-sensitive national highway.
The project incorporates a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor traversing Kaziranga National Park, alongside 21 km of bypasses and 30 km of widening of the existing highway.
This initiative aims to enhance connectivity across Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, and Golaghat districts while ensuring the safe movement of wildlife and minimizing human-animal conflict.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate two new Amrit Bharat Express trains: the Guwahati (Kamakhya) – Rohtak and Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) services, further strengthening rail connectivity between Northeast India and the northern regions of the country.
