Shimla, Sep 6 (NationPress) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his anticipated visit to the disaster-affected region of Himachal Pradesh, two teams from the Union Home Ministry are set to arrive on Sunday to evaluate the extensive damage in the districts of Chamba and Kullu. These areas have suffered significant destruction due to relentless rainfall, leading to loss of life and considerable harm to infrastructure and agriculture, as confirmed by official sources on Saturday.
One team will travel to Chamba from Pathankot, while the other will head to Kullu from Chandigarh. Both teams are scheduled to remain in the state until September 10, during which they will assess the damage and compile a report for the Home Ministry, as noted by a senior official in the state government.
The state government estimates the loss at a staggering Rs 3,959 crore. Rainfall has persisted throughout the monsoon season, with damages escalating across all 12 districts of the state.
The Indian Air Force has been deployed to conduct rescue operations for the Manimahesh Yatra and assist stranded pilgrims.
“Currently, PM Modi's visit is not being scheduled due to adverse weather conditions. However, should the weather improve next week, he may carry out an aerial survey of Kullu and Chamba,” stated an official.
“The Prime Minister's Office was unable to schedule the visit to Himachal Pradesh last week due to the inclement weather,” he added.

In June, 31 individuals lost their lives in the Seraj assembly constituency of Mandi district, and road connectivity was severed in many areas. Following this, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, and now Chamba districts have been severely affected.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has reported that 1,087 roads are currently blocked, alongside disruptions to 2,838 power supply lines and 509 water supply schemes.
During the monsoon session of the Assembly, a resolution was passed to declare the state a national disaster-hit area due to the unprecedented circumstances.
In 2023 alone, Himachal Pradesh faced losses exceeding Rs 10,000 crore due to natural disasters, with Shimla and Kullu districts again experiencing significant impacts in 2024.
