New Delhi, Sep 11 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Uttarakhand on Thursday for a comprehensive review of the destruction inflicted by the unyielding monsoon that has impacted every district across the state.

The Prime Minister's arrival in Dehradun is scheduled for Thursday evening, where he will conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas at approximately 4:15 p.m. to gauge the severity of the damage.

At 5 p.m., he will lead a high-level review meeting with both state and central officials to assess the ongoing relief and rehabilitation initiatives.

Security measures have been meticulously arranged to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister during his visit.

Uttarakhand has been grappling with significant monsoon-induced calamities over recent months, including cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods, which have led to extensive devastation.

These disasters have resulted in numerous fatalities, thousands of injuries, and severe damage to infrastructure.

Government reports indicate that the heavy rainfall in August and September has caused damages estimated to exceed Rs 5,000 crore, severely impacting roads, schools, and power lines across multiple districts.

By early September, over 80 lives had been lost due to the monsoon, with nearly 100 individuals reported missing, according to official sources.

A governmental team had previously visited the region to evaluate the destruction and facilitate assistance efforts.

Earlier this week, PM Modi also visited Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to inspect disaster-affected regions and oversee rescue and relief operations.

This visit to Uttarakhand follows a high-level meeting in Varanasi with the Mauritian Prime Minister, Navinchandra Ramgoolam.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. in Varanasi, PM Modi will host Ramgoolam, who is on a state visit to India from September 9-16. The city has been adorned with elaborate preparations for this significant meeting.

This gathering in the historic city of Varanasi will emphasize the civilizational ties, spiritual connections, and enduring people-to-people relationships that have shaped the unique bond between India and Mauritius.

During their discussions, both leaders are anticipated to delve into the full range of collaborative efforts, particularly focusing on development partnerships and capacity building.

They will also explore fresh avenues of cooperation in various sectors, such as healthcare, education, science and technology, energy, and infrastructure, with a focus on renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.

This upcoming dialogue continues the positive trajectory established during PM Modi's visit to Mauritius in March of this year, where India and Mauritius elevated their relationship to an 'Enhanced Strategic Partnership'.
