New Delhi, Aug 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with Members of Parliament (MPs) from Uttarakhand on Wednesday to discuss the circumstances in Uttarkashi following the dual cloudbursts that struck the Dharali area.
The MPs, including Anil Baluni, Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Trivendra Singh Rawat, and Ajay Bhatt, briefed the Prime Minister at the Parliament House about the ongoing situation and the rescue efforts in the affected regions.
PM Modi encouraged the MPs to maintain communication with the citizens in their Lok Sabha constituencies, emphasizing the need to ensure safety in the rain and landslide-impacted areas and to provide all necessary support.
After the meeting, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni shared on X, "The Honourable Prime Minister is profoundly saddened and distressed by the grave calamity in Uttarkashi. He is closely overseeing the ongoing review of relief and rescue operations. All Central and State Government agencies are fully committed to urgent relief, rescue, and rehabilitation tasks."
Baluni also conveyed that PM Modi affirmed the Central Government's unwavering support for all those affected by the disaster, including residents of Dharali.
He added that the Central Government is extending every possible assistance to Uttarakhand for disaster recovery efforts.
"The Honourable Prime Minister Ji urged all MPs to connect with the communities in areas suffering from heavy rainfall and landslides in their Lok Sabha constituencies and to ensure they receive all possible help," he stated.
Tehri Garhwal MP Mala Rajyalaxmi Shah told IANS, "The destruction is extensive, and the situation is incredibly distressing. Heavy rainfall continues across the state, compounding the devastation further. Rescue operations are ongoing, but the conditions are challenging."
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt, in a conversation with IANS, expressed optimism that the Centre would deliver all necessary assistance to the affected region.
"PM Modi and HM Shah are vigilantly monitoring the situation. Teams from NDRF and SDRF have been deployed, along with nearly all available health teams. The Army has also been mobilized for prompt rescue and relief operations," he remarked.
