Uttarkashi, Aug 7 (NationPress) A total of 409 individuals have been successfully rescued from the flood-affected regions of Uttarkashi, with 274 people airlifted to safety in Harsil on Thursday. Officials overseeing the relief operations confirmed this update amid ongoing rescue efforts.
Furthermore, 135 individuals have already been moved to secure locations as the response to the catastrophic flash floods, caused by cloudbursts, escalates. The cumulative number of rescues now stands at 409.
Two days after the devastating rains wreaked havoc in the Uttarkashi area of Uttarakhand, relief operations are advancing swiftly. Victims are being airlifted to higher ground, while medical assistance is being provided to the injured.
The Disaster Management Authority reported that all 274 rescued individuals have been confirmed safe after being transported to Harsil from Gangotri and adjacent regions.
The rescued individuals include pilgrims hailing from various parts of India: 131 from Gujarat, 123 from Maharashtra, 21 from Madhya Pradesh, 12 from Uttar Pradesh, 6 from Rajasthan, 7 from Delhi, 5 each from Assam and Karnataka, 3 from Telangana, and 1 from Punjab.
Currently, 479 personnel from multiple organizations are on the ground.
