Dehradun, Aug 6 (NationPress) Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the region of Uttarkashi affected by a devastating cloudburst and mudslide resulting from intense flash floods. He met with the families impacted by this calamity and promised them comprehensive support during this challenging time, offering comfort through embraces and compassionate words.
In a message shared on X, CM Dhami stated, “In Dharaali (Uttarkashi), I interacted with the families suffering due to the tragedy and assured them of our unwavering support during this crisis. The grief caused by this disaster is profound, and we empathize with their pain.”
He emphasized that the government is fully committed to assisting those affected and that effective disaster management and relief operations are underway. he added.
The Chief Minister directed district officials and all relevant departments to expedite relief and rescue efforts, noting that saving every life is a top priority for his administration.
“Our utmost concern right now is to ensure efficient relief and rescue operations. State rescue teams, alongside NDRF, SDRF, and the Army, are collaborating to manage this crisis,” CM Dhami explained to reporters.
Earlier that day, he conducted an aerial assessment of the mudslide-stricken area and urged officials to maintain a state of constant readiness.
“In Dharali, Uttarkashi, all government agencies, departments, and the army are actively coordinating in relief and rescue operations. More than 130 individuals were rescued last night. Roads that were blocked are being reopened, and every possible support is being provided to those affected,” he remarked.
The village of Dharali in Uttarkashi experienced a catastrophic mudslide due to flash floods on Tuesday afternoon. This scenic village, known for its hotels, homestays, and eateries, suffered extensive damage as the torrents swept through, causing widespread destruction.
Dharali serves as a crucial stop along the route to Gangotri, the source of the river Ganga.
The Indian Army is actively participating in the relief efforts, utilizing MI-17 and Chinook helicopters to evacuate stranded villagers to safety.
