While addressing Indian business leaders, the UK Prime Minister stated: "This is the largest trade mission that the United Kingdom has ever dispatched to India. This is a two-part initiative; Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi visited the UK earlier this year to finalize the FTA."
Prime Minister Modi, who is scheduled to meet with his British counterpart on Thursday, took to X to extend a warm welcome to Sir Keir in India.
"Welcome Prime Minister Keir Starmer on your historic first visit to India with the largest trade delegation from the UK. I look forward to our meeting tomorrow to advance our shared vision for a stronger and mutually prosperous future," PM Modi remarked.
During his two-day trip to India, the two leaders are anticipated to evaluate the progress under the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, guided by the ‘Vision 2035’ roadmap—a decade-long plan that encompasses trade, investment, technology, defence, security, climate, energy, health, education, and cultural exchanges.
Upon his arrival in Mumbai, the UK PM visited a football training facility and toured the renowned Yash Raj Films Studio. He was joined by actress Rani Mukerji during his visit. The Prime Minister also enjoyed a film screening with the actress and Yash Raj Films' CEO Akshaye Widhani.
Prime Minister Starmer announced that three films from India's prestigious Yash Raj Films will commence shooting in the UK starting in 2026, which is expected to generate over 3,000 jobs in the UK.
British Airways has also reasserted its commitment to expanding operations in India, facilitating this significant UK Government trade mission led by Prime Minister Starmer, according to a recent announcement from the airline.
In a new Instagram post during his visit to India, PM Starmer emphasized that "growth in India for British businesses translates to more jobs at home for the British people."
