With more than 500 beneficiaries across 16 blocks and urban areas, this scheme is not only illuminating homes but also alleviating financial stress.

Residents are enjoying remarkable advantages, including drastically lowered electricity expenses and a dependable power supply, courtesy of rooftop solar panel installations provided through the initiative. This forward-thinking program, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is rapidly gaining traction and support among the community.

Local entrepreneur Sonu Kumar Singh, who started a business inspired by this initiative, refers to it as a groundbreaking gesture.

"This scheme is a tremendous blessing for the future. The Prime Minister’s vision is brightening homes—both literally and figuratively," he stated in an interview with IANS.

In the Khanjarpur area of Bhagalpur, several residents shared their testimonials with IANS.

Beneficiary Rakesh Pathak remarked, "We implemented the solar system under this scheme about two and a half months ago. Since then, we’ve been free from worrying about electricity bills. The entire procedure was seamless, and I’m grateful to PM Modi for such an impactful initiative."

Another local beneficiary, Kanchan Devi, highlighted the dependability of solar energy.

"Before we installed the solar panels, power interruptions during storms were common. However, ever since the installation, we’ve enjoyed a continuous power supply. The hassle of recharging is gone, and tranquility has returned. Thank you, PM Modi," she expressed.

Ravikant Prasad shared similar thoughts.

"My son and a friend informed me about the scheme. After researching on my phone, I decided to go ahead with it. It has truly benefited us—we no longer stress about electricity bills. I’m very appreciative of the Prime Minister," he stated.

Ajay Kumar Mandal from Laxmipur in the Naugachhia subdivision discovered the scheme and decided to investigate further.

"I visited a residence where the system was installed, met Sonu Singh, and was convinced. It’s an excellent initiative, and I’m planning to get it installed myself," he revealed.

According to official reports, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana represents the largest domestic rooftop solar project globally. Launched by Prime Minister Modi on February 13, 2024, the program aims to equip one crore households with solar power by March 2027. The phased implementation plans for 10 lakh installations by March 2025, increasing to 20 lakh by October 2025, and reaching 40 lakh by March 2026.

With a generous subsidy of up to 40% on installation costs, the scheme is structured to make clean energy both affordable and accessible to Indian families. Within just nine months, an impressive 6.3 lakh installations have been completed, with a current installation rate of 70,000 per month—ten times higher than prior to the scheme’s launch.
