How Does PMAY (U) Provide Financial Aid to Gariyaband Beneficiaries and Make Pucca Houses a Reality?

Gariyaband, June 25 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) PMAY(U) marks a significant milestone as it celebrates ten years since its initiation in 2015, driving transformative changes throughout India. Residents of Gariyaband district in Chhattisgarh have expressed heartfelt appreciation towards the central government, sharing how their aspirations for a pucca house have finally been fulfilled.

Designed as a flagship initiative by the government of India, PMAY(U) aims to provide permanent housing solutions to the urban impoverished. By offering financial support to eligible individuals, it aids in the construction or acquisition of durable homes. This initiative has not only secured housing but also significantly improved health outcomes, safety, and living conditions for millions.

In Gariyaband's Rajim Nagar area, beneficiaries recounted the life-altering effects of the program.

“Previously, we resided in thatched and tiled houses,” a local shared.

“During the rains, our homes would leak, with mud everywhere. But now, thanks to PMAY (U), we have concrete roofs. It feels like a dream realized.”

Many others echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the transition from kutcha to pucca houses has provided them with stability and dignity. They reminisced about the hardships experienced during the rainy season and winters, emphasizing how the scheme has now granted them safe and secure homes.

To advance this vision, the Central government has launched PMAY (U) 2.0, which was recently evaluated at the third meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), led by Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). During the meeting on June 18, the Centre sanctioned the construction of an additional 2.35 lakh houses under the initiative.

PMAY (U) 2.0 operates through four segments - Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS). The recently sanctioned homes fall under the BLC and AHP categories, providing central assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh per housing unit.

To be eligible, beneficiaries must not possess a pucca house anywhere in India. With over 93.19 lakh houses already built under PMAY(U), the introduction of PMAY-U 2.0 aims to broaden its reach, particularly focusing on families within the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG), and Middle Income Group (MIG).

More than just a housing initiative, PMAY(U) stands as a social movement that seeks to restore dignity, foster self-reliance, and empower communities. A distinctive aspect of this program is the active participation of beneficiaries in the construction process, which instills a sense of ownership.
