Chennai, Aug 17 (NationPress) The extraordinary General Council of Tamil Nadu's Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), called by its founder Dr. S. Ramadoss at Pattanur on Sunday, has reaffirmed his position as the party President.
A resolution adopted during the meeting indicated that Dr. Ramadoss officially took over as president on May 30, 2025, following an amendment to the party’s bylaws and subsequent ratification by both the administrative and executive committees.
The council emphasized that this decision was pivotal for strengthening the organization and guiding it towards triumph in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
Another significant resolution empowered Dr. Ramadoss to determine the party’s electoral alliances for the impending elections. The council stressed that a coherent and robust alliance strategy would be essential for PMK’s electoral success.
The gathering also conveyed a strong message concerning community welfare, warning of protests if the Tamil Nadu government does not declare a 10.5 percent internal reservation for Vanniyars.
Furthermore, the council urged the state to promptly conduct a caste-wise census, highlighting that numerous other states have already executed such surveys.
"There should be no further delay," the resolution asserted.
The PMK took this opportunity to outline a broader social and developmental agenda, advocating for the implementation of total prohibition in Tamil Nadu, linking the increase in heinous crimes such as rape and murder to unregulated liquor consumption.
The council also demanded a ban on ganja and other narcotics.
On matters of infrastructure and water management, the party called for the construction of check dams along the Cauvery and other rivers to prevent water wastage into the sea and pushed for the long-overdue interlinking of the Cauvery-Godavari rivers.
The council passed numerous additional resolutions, including reinstating the old pension scheme for government employees, implementing the Nandan canal system, reclaiming Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka, regularizing contract workers at NLC India Ltd, and granting full statehood to the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Taken collectively, these resolutions signal the party’s determination to position itself not only as a champion of Vanniyar rights but also as a proponent of broader social reforms and state development.
