New Delhi, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has given the green light to 1,601 projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), with a total of Rs 6,411.61 crore allocated as grants-in-aid by June 30. This initiative has positively impacted over 34 lakh farmers across the country, as reported in Parliament on Thursday.
The primary goal of the PMKSY scheme is to foster the comprehensive growth of the food processing industry in India. This scheme provides financial assistance in the form of grants-in-aid to qualified organizations and entities for establishing food processing and preservation facilities, as stated by the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh, in a written response in the Lok Sabha.
The initiative focuses on constructing modern infrastructure, ensuring efficient supply chain management from the farm gate to retail, minimizing post-harvest losses, and enhancing value addition. This will lead to better financial returns for farmers, job creation, reduced waste, increased processing levels, and improved export of processed foods, ultimately supporting the growth of the food processing sector in India.
The facilities developed under the various components of the PMKSY are crucial for preserving and processing raw agricultural products, as well as transporting both raw and finished goods, thereby mitigating post-harvest losses.
To improve the effectiveness of the PMKSY, the ministry conducts regular monitoring through Project Management Agencies (PMAs) involved in the component schemes and conducts physical inspections of the projects. Additionally, the ministry coordinates with the relevant states and Union Territories for the effective execution of the scheme when necessary, the minister added.
