Chennai, March 25 (NationPress) As the Class 12 board examinations come to an end today throughout Tamil Nadu, the state education department has instructed schools to station police officers on their premises to ensure order and facilitate a peaceful dispersal of students. In an announcement made on Monday, the department indicated that the presence of law enforcement would aid in managing the crowds and upholding discipline, particularly as the Class 12 exams conclude today, with Class 11 exams following suit on March 27.
This year, approximately 8.21 lakh Class 12 students participated in the board examinations, which commenced on March 3. Meanwhile, 8.23 lakh Class 11 students have been undertaking their exams since March 5, and over 9.13 lakh Class 10 students are set to begin their board exams from March 28 to April 15. In total, more than 25.57 lakh students across Classes 10, 11, and 12 are involved in board examinations statewide. Among these, 20,746 students with disabilities are participating under special arrangements.
To ensure a seamless and equitable examination experience, the Department of Government Examinations (DGE) has established an examination committee in each district, led by the respective district collector. These committees are responsible for ensuring basic amenities, such as drinking water and consistent power supply, at all examination venues.
The examinations for Classes 12 and 11 are being held across 3,316 centres, while Class 10 exams will take place at 4,113 centres.
Over 45,000 teachers have been assigned to examination-related responsibilities, and more than 4,800 flying squads are deployed to deter any malpractice or irregularities.
A dedicated control room has also been established at the DGE headquarters, operational from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all examination days. This facility offers assistance and addresses inquiries from students, parents, and the general public.
The use of mobile phones has been strictly forbidden for both students and invigilators within the examination centres.
According to the provisional schedule, the Class 12 results are anticipated on April 9, while the Class 11 and Class 10 results will be announced on April 19.
In the 2024 board examinations, 7.72 lakh Class 12 students participated, comprising 4.1 lakh girls, 3.6 lakh boys, and one transgender student -- all of whom successfully passed.
For Class 11, out of 8,11,172 students, a total of 7,39,539 students cleared the exams, including 4,04,143 girls and 3,35,396 boys.
In the Class 10 SSLC exams, 8,94,264 students appeared, resulting in a pass percentage of 91.55%. From this group, 4,22,591 of 4,47,061 girls passed (94.55%), while 3,96,152 of 4,47,203 boys succeeded (88.58%). Through robust measures and district-level coordination, the Tamil Nadu government aims to provide a safe, fair, and efficient examination process for all students.
