Jammu, July 26 (NationPress) - The Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken the significant step of suspending two officers in the Jammu district pending the completion of a magisterial inquiry into the fatal shooting of a youth in the Satwari region two days prior. This announcement was made by the police on Saturday.
The District Magistrate of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, has mandated a magisterial inquiry into the incident, which transpired on July 24, 2025, in the Satwari locale of Jammu city.
In response to the incident, which has raised serious concerns, Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh reported that the District Magistrate has initiated a thorough investigation to ensure an unbiased examination of the events surrounding the incident.
The inquiry will be led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jammu South.
The designated inquiry officer is tasked with completing the investigation within a two-week timeframe and submitting a comprehensive report to the District Magistrate for appropriate action.
Moreover, a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by an officer of Deputy Superintendent Police rank, has been established to look into the allegations made by the deceased youth's family.
The young man, identified as Parvez Ahmad, was reported killed on Thursday evening.
While the police claim that Parvez was a suspected drug dealer who was fatally shot during a crossfire while pursuing another individual, his family vehemently disputes this narrative, asserting that he was a victim of a fabricated encounter.
Political leaders have been vocal in their demand for a fair and timely investigation into the matter. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his sorrow over the incident on X, stating, "The killing of Mohd Parvez of Niki Tawi in Jammu is highly unfortunate and deeply regrettable. The use of police force must be measured and cannot be indiscriminate. The region has suffered greatly due to such incidents in the past."
He emphasized the need for a transparent and prompt investigation, extending his condolences to Mohd Parvez's family and praying for his eternal peace.
Senior Gujjar leader and National Conference MP, Mian Altaf Ahmad, condemned the killing and urged for swift justice against those responsible.
Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party, People's Democratic Party, People's Conference, and Apni Party have also called for a transparent examination of the circumstances surrounding the youth's death.
The suspension of both a head constable and a selection grade constable comes in the wake of an FIR lodged under Sections 109(1), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and 3/27 of the Arms Act as of July 24, 2025.
