Traffic Officer in J&K Suspended for Alleged Misconduct with Attorney

Jammu, Dec 17 (NationPress) An Assistant Sub-Inspector of J&K Traffic Police was suspended on Tuesday following accusations of misconduct involving a local attorney in Jammu city.
The reported incident of misconduct resulted in a road blockage as attorneys protested against the behavior of the traffic officer, prompting immediate action from the authorities.
The officer in question has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Kamal Kumar. According to the legal representatives, the officer reportedly misbehaved with one of their members, igniting outrage within the legal community. The Bar Association of Jammu has vehemently condemned this incident and is demanding strict measures against the officer. Furthermore, the Association claims that ASI Kamal Kumar is a repeat offender who often misuses his power and behaves inappropriately with the public,” stated an official.
In response to the protests, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Jammu took the immediate step of suspending the officer while further investigations are conducted.
The J&K Traffic Police has faced increased public scrutiny following the tragic deaths of two youths in a road rage incident in Srinagar on November 15.
On that date, two teenagers lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when their vehicle collided with a stationary truck before crashing into a divider in Srinagar city. This incident raised urgent calls for enforcing stricter regulations against underage driving in the Valley.
The four teenagers involved were all students in Class 11. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, showing their SUV colliding with the parked truck.
Numerous individuals, including local politicians, expressed their sorrow over the loss of life, and the event sparked societal demands for a ban on underage driving.
Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remarked that road safety awareness shows no signs of improvement.
In response, traffic police initiated a campaign against underage driving and traffic law violations. In Srinagar alone, police seized over 3,000 vehicles of various types during this crackdown.
