Frequent causes of fatal road accidents in hilly regions like Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Rajouri, Kishtwar, and Poonch include speeding, road rage, overloading, and poor road conditions.
The Traffic Department, along with local transport authorities, has been enforcing strict measures against road rage, overloading, and reckless driving by revoking driving licenses and vehicle registrations for irresponsible drivers.
In a proactive move, the Traffic Department has confiscated numerous motorcycles, scooters, cars, and jeeps involved in reckless driving and related infractions.
Additionally, officials from the Traffic Department have been symbolically distributing crash helmets to riders who are inadequately protected while operating motorcycles and other two-wheelers.
Filling stations across Jammu and Kashmir are strictly prohibited from dispensing fuel to two-wheeler operators who arrive without wearing crash helmets.
It is essential that both the driver and the passenger wear crash helmets.
Regional transport officials in both the Jammu division and the Kashmir Valley have been actively informing and warning parents about regulations stating that parents of minors caught driving can face fines and imprisonment for endangering the lives of their children and others on the road.
