Jammu, April 14 (NationPress) A tragic road accident claimed one life and left nine others injured on Monday near Banihal town in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
According to officials, the incident occurred around 4 am when a Tata Mobile vehicle, transporting 11 members from two Bakarwal families from Tehsil Teryath in Rajouri district, was en route to Srinagar.
“As the vehicle approached the railway bridge in Banihal, it overturned and collided with the bridge wall.
“One individual died instantly, while the other nine sustained injuries. They were initially taken to the Sub-District Hospital in Banihal and later transferred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for advanced medical care.
“The police have acknowledged the incident,” officials reported.
Traffic department officials attribute the high rate of accidents on roads and highways to factors such as overloading, speeding, aggressive driving, and reckless behavior.
Incidents involving minors operating vehicles have led to numerous fatalities in Kashmir. To address this issue, the regional transport office has outlined penalties, including imprisonment for parents permitting minors to drive and the cancellation of vehicle registration certificates of those found in violation.
Among motorcycle riders, the absence of crash helmets for both the driver and the passenger often leads to serious injuries or death.
Authorities have instructed fuel stations not to dispense fuel to two-wheeler operators unless they are wearing helmets.

In the past five months, the traffic department has seized over 4,000 various vehicles, and this rigorous enforcement has significantly improved compliance with traffic regulations.
