Srinagar, March 20 (NationPress) Nine tourists suffered injuries on Thursday in a road mishap that occurred in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

According to officials, a minibus transporting tourists lost control at Nipora, Mirbazar in Kulgam earlier in the day.

“The vehicle overturned on the roadway, causing injuries to nine individuals. The injured were promptly transported to the government medical college (GMC) hospital located in Anantnag town,” officials stated.

The injured individuals have been identified as Vikram Kumar from Rajasthan, Avala Krishna Chaitanya from Andhra Pradesh, Aftab Ahmad from Uttar Pradesh, Shambo from Mumbai, Chota Ram from Rajasthan, Ramlal from Mumbai, Vabak Kumar from Mumbai, Anil Kumar from Kalwa Mumbai, and Rahul from Rajasthan.

“The police have taken notice of the occurrence,” officials mentioned.

Traffic department officials attribute these accidents to speeding, overloading, poor road conditions, and road rage.

The transport department has made public the consequences that such violations incur.

Penalties include the cancellation of driving licenses for reckless driving, revocation of vehicle registrations driven by minors, and potential imprisonment for parents who allow their minor children to operate vehicles.

The traffic department has impounded over 3,000 vehicles, including cars, SUVs, motorcycles, and scooters involved in traffic violations. Fuel stations across J&K have been instructed not to serve motorcyclists who arrive without wearing helmets.

As a measure to promote safe driving, the department has also been distributing helmets to two-wheeler drivers and their passengers.

In many instances, traffic department officials observe that while motorcycle riders often wear helmets, the passengers frequently do not.

“This puts the lives of your loved ones at risk. A cautious and responsible driver must prioritize the safety of their passengers,” stated a senior police officer.

The traffic department has deployed special teams along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway to ensure strict adherence to road safety regulations.

Long traffic jams on this crucial highway are frequently caused by vehicles bypassing the queue at a narrow section between Ramshoo and Ramban.
