Srinagar, Aug 11 (NationPress) Tragically, two officers of the J&K Police lost their lives and another was injured in a serious road accident that occurred in the Srinagar district, officials reported on Monday.
According to the officials, two sub-inspectors from the J&K Police were killed while another suffered injuries in the mishap that took place in the Nowgam area.
“On the night of August 10-11, a vehicle traveling at high speed, with registration number JK21H-1919, collided with a road divider on the bypass road near Nowgam, after the driver lost control. Three sub-inspectors of the J&K Police were injured in this unfortunate incident. The injured officers were rushed to the hospital, where medical staff pronounced two of them dead upon arrival,” officials stated.
The officer who survived the accident is identified as Mastan Singh from the 23 Battalion of the IRP and is currently receiving treatment.
The deceased officers were identified as Sachin Verma from the 23 Battalion of the India Reserve Police, stationed at Panthachowk in Srinagar, and Shubam from the 21 Battalion of the IRP, who was posted at Awantipora in Pulwama.
Authorities have acknowledged the incident and are investigating. Experts attribute the high incidence of road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir to factors such as excessive speed, road rage, reckless driving, and poor road conditions.
Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) across the Kashmir and Jammu divisions have issued warnings, stating that reckless driving could lead to the cancellation of a driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration. Parents permitting minors to operate vehicles could face legal repercussions, including imprisonment.
Individuals who drive recklessly not only jeopardize their own safety but also the lives of others, including pedestrians and fellow motorists.
Motorcyclists have been urged to wear crash helmets that meet safety standards, and fuel stations have been instructed not to dispense petrol to riders who are not wearing helmets.
