Bhopal, April 3 (NationPress) The recent conviction of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti by a Special MP/MLA court in Delhi on charges of cheating has ignited a political controversy in Madhya Pradesh. Bharti was disqualified from the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly shortly after the verdict was delivered.

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari criticized the rapid disqualification of Datia’s MLA Rajendra Bharti, highlighting that while the court has convicted him, it also allowed a 60-day period for him to appeal the ruling in the High Court.

“Although Rajendra Bharti has been convicted, the court provided him with a 60-day opportunity to challenge the ruling. However, the BJP exploited its authority and pressured officials within the State Assembly Secretariat to enforce Bharti’s disqualification late at night on March 2,” Patwari stated.

Patwari specifically called out senior BJP leader and Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar for allegedly being biased in his decision-making.

In contrast, the ruling BJP endorsed the decision to disqualify Bharti, asserting that the action was a direct consequence of his conviction.

“This situation pertains to Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti from Datia, and the court has thoroughly examined the matter. Any inconsistencies in the documents he submitted were duly considered in the court's verdict. It’s essential for all parties to respect the court's ruling, and the BJP fully supports the decision,” stated Madhya Pradesh BJP president Hemant Khandelwal to IANS.

On April 2, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court sentenced Bharti and a former bank employee to three years in prison for a cheating scheme that involved the forgery of bank records to receive illicit interest payments from 1998 to 2011.

The pair was found guilty on April 1 of multiple charges, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery of a valuable security, forgery for cheating, and utilizing a forged document as authentic.

Point of View
