Will They Face Consequences for Insulting 'Devbhoomi'?

Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Aug 9 (NationPress) BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Saturday fiercely criticized former Samajwadi Party MP ST Hasan for his provocative remarks following the catastrophic cloudburst in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Poonawalla accused Hasan of showing disrespect to the residents of 'Devbhoomi' and cautioned that such statements will not go unnoticed.
In an interview with IANS, he stated, “The petty mindset of the Samajwadi Party is glaringly apparent. At a time when the people are mourning a disaster in Kashi of Uttarakhand, SP’s ST Hasan makes shocking statements suggesting the calamity is divine retribution. He insinuates that the people are suffering for allegedly oppressing minorities. This isn’t the first instance of Samajwadi leaders disparaging Sanatan Dharma. They are the same individuals who attributed the COVID-19 pandemic to reforms like triple talaq and adjustments in Sharia law. They continuously challenge Hindu customs, including the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Poonawalla further mentioned that such remarks profoundly offend the sentiments of Uttarakhand's populace and Hindus nationwide.
“They have insulted the residents of Devbhoomi, and for that, they shall face repercussions,” he asserted.
Earlier, ST Hasan expressed, “We are uncertain how many individuals remain trapped beneath the debris. It’s an agonizing situation. A complete village has been obliterated. Such tragedies compel us to introspect. We have felled too many trees.”
However, it was his subsequent comment that sparked widespread indignation.
“In Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, other faiths are not honored. There is a higher power governing this world, and when divine justice unfolds, no one can shield themselves. Bulldozers should not be employed on any dargahs or temples. It is preferable to evacuate such locations amicably,” Hasan stated.
Meanwhile, rescue and relief efforts have entered their fifth day in flash flood-affected Uttarkashi. The Indian Army, SDRF, NDRF, and ITBP are engaged in joint operations in Harsil and Dharali.
According to Uttarkashi Police, "ITBP personnel have been relocated to Matli. Stranded individuals are being airlifted using Chinook and Cheetah helicopters, with medical teams ready at multiple sites."
