New Delhi, Aug 9 (NationPress) A provocative statement by former Samajwadi Party MP, ST Hasan, regarding the recent cloudburst in Uttarkashi has incited strong backlash from BJP leaders, who have labeled the comment as divisive, baseless, and politically motivated.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal reacted vehemently, asserting that Hasan’s assertion was entirely unfounded and an effort to introduce communal elements into a natural disaster.
“His claims are completely unfounded. Natural calamities can strike anywhere, and it is utterly erroneous to imply that any religion is being disrespected. Such remarks are designed to disrupt social harmony,” he stated.
Senior BJP figure Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also denounced the comments.
“Whether in Uttarakhand or any other area facing calamities, individuals have endured significant hardships. While the nation prays for those impacted, some choose to hurl accusations. They present nonsensical arguments such as linking these disasters to unrelated geopolitical issues. What is occurring in Palestine? What is happening in Iraq? Why resort to such illogical reasoning?”
Uttar Pradesh Minister and Nishad Party chief Sanjay Nishad remarked: “It is inappropriate to make such claims; they are unfounded. These are the same individuals who persistently engage in politics even during crises.”
Earlier, in an interview with IANS, ST Hasan commented, “In Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, other faiths are not being honored. There is a higher power governing the world, and when divine justice occurs, no one can shield themselves. Bulldozers should not be employed on any dargahs or temples. It’s preferable to evacuate such sites peacefully.”
The cloudburst in Uttarkashi has resulted in numerous fatalities, individuals missing, and many displaced.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with NDRF and SDRF units deployed in the affected areas. While leaders across the political spectrum have expressed their prayers and sympathies, Hasan’s remarks have been broadly interpreted as an attempt to communalize a natural calamity.
