Bengaluru, April 28 (NationPress) Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, criticized Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar following a speech disruption incident in Belagavi.
“Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have crossed the line with their actions in Belagavi today. They appear to be intoxicated by power. Siddaramaiah raised his hands against a senior police officer who was simply doing his duty. Publicly insulting a police officer and attacking protesters is a blatant abuse of power, nothing less,” the minister alleged.
He went on to say that Siddaramaiah “raised” his hand towards the Additional SP on stage. “Such behavior reveals his arrogance. Shivakumar not only obstructed the protests of BJP workers but also issued threats,” he added.
Joshi stated that Congress leaders must understand that public anger is escalating due to their “misrule” and “arrogance.” He cautioned that citizens will soon express their discontent through action.
He claimed their actions are theatrical and contradict the principles of democracy and constitutional values.
He emphasized that every citizen has the right to express their opinions and dissent, a fundamental constitutional right that should not be suppressed.
Joshi also condemned Shivakumar's threats against BJP workers protesting, labeling such behavior as unconstitutional and intolerable.
He warned that in the near future, people will retaliate against such divisive and threatening politics.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, remarked, “CM Siddaramaiah, don’t you know how the Women’s Morcha workers arrived in Belagavi? Isn’t this a failure of your intelligence? Your surveillance system is inadequate for minor issues.”
“The Chief Minister has attacked the police. If this is the case, how did terrorists manage to enter the country? Don’t you feel ashamed? If the Chief Minister behaves this way, what protection will you offer to the common people?” he questioned.
He further criticized the Chief Minister for questioning the Prime Minister regarding terrorism and national security. “What is your response to your intelligence failure?” Narayanaswamy added.
He accused Siddaramaiah of spreading falsehoods about the country and the Jammu-Kashmir issue while participating in a party event in Belagavi.
To protest Siddaramaiah’s actions, BJP Women's Morcha leaders and members displayed black flags. “This is part of a democratic process. No one arrived armed with sticks or guns, nor did anyone carry AK-47s like in Kashmir,” he clarified.
He also condemned the behavior of Congress workers, who allegedly attacked women after they were placed in a police van. “This exemplifies the conduct of a goonda government,” he asserted.
Additionally, Narayanaswamy alleged that Siddaramaiah had taken an aggressive stance against an Additional SP. “When the Additional SP stepped back, a slap was avoided. They treat the police as if they are their slaves,” he remarked.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah lost his temper and raised his hand in front of party workers against the Additional SP, following the disruption of his speech at the Congress convention in Belagavi by BJP women workers concerning his alleged remarks, ‘no need for war with Pakistan.’
