New Delhi, Oct 19 (NationPress) In a shocking event that unfolded in Ram Nagar area of central Delhi, a 22-year-old pregnant woman was viciously stabbed to death in broad daylight by her lover, who was subsequently killed by her husband in an act of retaliation, as reported by the police on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Shalini, was a homemaker and mother to two daughters. Her husband, Akash, aged 23 and an e-rickshaw driver, is currently fighting for his life in the hospital.
The assailant, known as Aashu or Shailendra, aged 34, was recognized as a local criminal and allegedly had a romantic relationship with Shalini.
Officials stated that Aashu claimed Shalini was expecting his child and was enraged by her choice to return to her husband.
According to DCP Nidhin Vansal from Central Delhi, the incident took place late on Saturday night while Akash and Shalini were heading to visit her mother at Qutub Road.
“Aashu suddenly confronted Akash and attempted to stab him with a knife. However, Akash dodged the assault. He noticed Shalini seated in an e-rickshaw and proceeded to stab her multiple times,” Vansal explained.
“When Akash tried to intervene and save his wife, a fierce struggle ensued between the two men. Akash was also stabbed but managed to overpower Aashu, seizing Aashu’s knife and fatally stabbing him,” the officer added.
Shalini's brother, Rohit, rushed both Akash and Shalini to the hospital, while the police transported Aashu to the same facility. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced both Shalini and Aashu dead upon arrival. Akash suffered numerous stab wounds during his attempt to rescue his wife.
Based on Shalini's mother Sheila's statement, the police have initiated a murder and attempted murder case. The bodies have been sent for autopsies.
Vansal further disclosed that Shalini and Akash's marriage had faced difficulties a few years back, leading to Shalini's affair with Aashu.
The couple even cohabitated for a period before she reconciled with Akash and returned to live with him and their two children.
This reconciliation reportedly infuriated Aashu, who insisted he was the father of Shalini's unborn child. The police reported that Shalini maintained that her husband, Akash, was the biological father, which may have provoked Aashu's lethal attack.
