Ranchi, Feb 15 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday underscored the importance of utilizing technology for the upliftment of the marginalised segments of society. This statement was made during her address at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra.
All societal groups should equally reap the benefits of swiftly advancing technological innovations. Technology and humanity should work in synergy. This concept is also reflected in our National Education Policy, she mentioned.
During her remarks on BIT-Mesra's esteemed legacy, President Murmu expressed her pride in having served as the Governor of Jharkhand and Chancellor of the University.
She conveyed her deep emotional bond with the state, stating, “Every visit here feels like returning home.”
As a leading engineering institution in Eastern India, BIT-Mesra has maintained a standard of academic excellence, she noted.
“The institute has significantly contributed to the mining and manufacturing sectors and was the first in India to establish a Department of Space Technology and Rocketry in 1964,” President Murmu commented.
She also commended the institute’s expansion beyond traditional engineering fields. “I am thrilled to see BIT-Mesra now offering courses in Quantitative Economics, Data Science, Humanities, Animation, and Multimedia, alongside its core engineering programs,” she stated.
She praised the students, faculty, and alumni for their achievements across various domains, including engineering, industry, entrepreneurship, research, innovation, administration, literature, sports, and journalism.
Highlighting the transformative effects of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning on global economies, President Murmu pointed out that the Government of India has initiated several programs to incorporate these technologies into the evolving environment.
President Murmu further emphasized the contribution of youth in nation-building, asserting, “The energy and dedication of young individuals will be vital in shaping a ‘Developed India.’ Our daughters are making remarkable progress in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics.”
She encouraged entrepreneurs to acknowledge and appreciate the traditional knowledge of indigenous communities.
Before her speech, President Murmu toured an exhibition featuring projects by students from various departments.
The event was also graced by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, state minister Sudivya Kumar, BIT-Mesra Chairman C.K. Birla, Vice Chancellor Prof Indranil Manna, and other dignitaries.
