Ranchi, Feb 15 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu, during the platinum jubilee festivities of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra on Saturday, highlighted the importance of harnessing technology for the upliftment of marginalised communities.
"It is essential that all sections of society benefit equally from the swift advancements in technology. Humanity and technology must work hand in hand. This concept is also reflected in our National Education Policy," she stated.
Reflecting on the esteemed history of BIT-Mesra, President Murmu expressed her pride in having served as the Governor of Jharkhand and the Chancellor of the institution.
She articulated her profound emotional connection to the state, remarking, "Every visit feels like a return home."
As a leading engineering institution in Eastern India, BIT-Mesra has maintained a legacy of academic excellence, she pointed out.
“The institute has significantly contributed to the mining and manufacturing sectors and was the first in India to launch a Department of Space Technology and Rocketry in 1964,” President Murmu remarked.
She commended the institute’s initiatives to broaden its academic offerings beyond traditional engineering fields. "I am thrilled to see that BIT-Mesra now includes programs in Quantitative Economics, Data Science, Humanities, Animation, and Multimedia, in addition to its core engineering disciplines," she noted.
She praised the students, faculty, and alumni for their achievements across various domains such as engineering, industry, entrepreneurship, research, innovation, administration, literature, sports, and journalism.
Emphasizing the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in global economies, President Murmu remarked that the Government of India has launched numerous initiatives to incorporate these technologies into the evolving landscape.
President Murmu also highlighted the critical role of youth in nation-building, stating, "The vigor and dedication of our youth will be vital in realizing a ‘Developed India.’ Our daughters are achieving remarkable success in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics."
She encouraged entrepreneurs to appreciate and integrate the traditional knowledge of indigenous communities.
Prior to her speech, President Murmu toured an exhibition featuring projects from various student departments.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, state minister Sudivya Kumar, BIT-Mesra Chairman R.K. Birla, Vice Chancellor Prof Indranil Manna, and other dignitaries.
