New Delhi, Feb 12 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday conveyed her warm wishes to the nation on the significant occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, encouraging individuals to adopt his principles of equality and social justice.
Guru Ravidas, a prominent saint from the Bhakti movement during the 15th and 16th centuries, is celebrated for his profound message of unity, devotion, and service to humanity.
In a post on X, President Murmu stated, "On this auspicious occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all citizens. Saint Ravidas devoted his life to serving humanity. He was relentless in his efforts to eliminate discrimination based on religion and caste and worked towards fostering unity in society."
"Let us embrace the teachings of Guru Ravidas ji and strive to contribute to the creation of a prosperous and developed nation," she emphasized.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also honored the occasion, posting on X, "Paying tribute to the illustrious social reformer and poet, Sant Shiromani Ravidas ji on his birth anniversary. Pujya Ravidas Ji advocated for social unity and brotherhood through his poetry and hymns during the Bhakti movement. His teachings, focused on uplifting the marginalized and disadvantaged, serve as a model for everyone."
BJP National President J.P. Nadda took to social media to express, "I offer my sincere tributes to Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji on his birth anniversary, who valued karma above all and illuminated the path of equality for the upliftment of all. His teachings, promoting social harmony, remain indispensable for unity, goodwill, and character development."
To honor this occasion, several states have announced a public holiday. Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand have declared statewide holidays, while the Delhi government has also instituted a public holiday for government and public sector employees.
In Punjab and Haryana, government offices and schools in areas such as Chandigarh, Mohali, Gurugram, and Faridabad will be closed.
In Uttarakhand, a holiday was announced on Wednesday for all state government institutions except the secretariat and treasury. The state will also conduct cleanliness initiatives and adorn statues of Guru Ravidas in his honor.
