Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 1 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit the capital of Kerala this Wednesday for a significant occasion where she will officially inaugurate the newly designated Lok Bhavan and oversee the Navy Day festivities on December 3.

This visit is historic as it represents the first official stay of a President at the Governor’s newly renamed residence, which was previously known as Kerala Raj Bhavan.

Last month, the Union Home Ministry mandated the renaming of Raj Bhavans nationwide to Lok Bhavan, in alignment with the principles of ‘Lok Tantra’ (people’s governance).

In adherence to this directive, the old nameplate of ‘Kerala Raj Bhavan’ was taken down on Monday, with the new ‘Lok Bhavan’ emblem slated to be unveiled on Tuesday, just before the President's arrival.

A major highlight of President Murmu’s visit will be her role as the chief guest at this year's Navy Day celebrations, which will be held in the Kerala capital for the very first time.

The event has been rescheduled from December 4 to December 3 due to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming visit to New Delhi for the India-Russia annual summit, reflecting both geopolitical sensitivities and India's increasing naval prominence.

The celebrations will take place at the recently constructed artificial shore at Shankhumukham beach, which has been specially designed to accommodate large maritime displays.

The Indian Navy is preparing an impressive exhibition featuring its flagship, the indigenously constructed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, along with advanced warships, submarines, and fighter jets. The live demonstrations, which will include operational drills and aerial maneuvers, are anticipated to attract a vast audience.

This unique coastal exhibition in Kerala signifies the Navy’s aim to promote maritime awareness beyond traditional bases and showcase its operational reach across all coasts.

With the President's attendance and the grandeur of the naval display, this year’s Navy Day is poised to be both a ceremonial landmark and a strong statement of India’s maritime capabilities and strategic goals.
