Maihar (Madhya Pradesh), Jan 30 (NationPress) - The principal in charge of a government school in Maihar district of Madhya Pradesh has faced suspension after it was reported that students received their mid-day meal on pieces of torn paper, including disused notebook pages, during the celebrations for Republic Day.

An official announcement made on Thursday night by Rewa Divisional Commissioner B.S. Jamod indicated that this incident arose from the negligence of the school’s in-charge principal, Sunil Kumar Tripathi.

The administrative order specified that Tripathi’s failure to ensure proper protocol resulted in chaos at the school and negatively impacted the reputation of the administration.

In light of the incident, a show-cause notice was issued to Tripathi on January 27, requiring him to provide an explanation within two days. However, he did not comply within the specified timeframe, as per the notification.

“The investigation uncovered that during the Republic Day ceremony, meals were served to children on paper in front of the acting principal, Sunil Kumar Tripathi. This incident, marked by negligence from the head of the institution, has led to a highly regrettable situation during a national celebration,” the order stated.

Tripathi, who is a high school educator, was acting as the principal of the government school located in Bhatigavan village of Maihar district.

“His actions reveal a lack of diligence and disregard in fulfilling his official responsibilities. Consequently, Sunil Kumar Tripathi, in-charge principal of High School Bhatigavan, District Maihar, is hereby suspended with immediate effect,” the order concluded.

The situation gained attention after a video circulated on social media, showcasing children being served halwa and puri on discarded paper and torn notebook pages during a special meal commemorating the country's 77th Republic Day.

In response to the viral footage and accompanying media reports, the Maihar district administration initiated an internal investigation. Following the findings presented by District Project Coordinator Vishnu Tripathi, a recommendation to suspend the in-charge principal was sent to the Rewa divisional commissioner.

In the aftermath, the district administration instructed educational authorities to strictly adhere to mid-day meal guidelines in all schools, emphasizing that any negligence affecting the health or dignity of the children would result in stringent consequences.

Point of View

This incident underscores a significant lapse in accountability within educational institutions. The well-being and dignity of students should always be prioritized, and such negligence not only reflects poorly on individual educators but also on the entire educational framework. It is imperative that strict measures are implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future, ensuring that our schools remain safe and nurturing environments for all children.
